TERRY PRESTON
Wildlife Art
With Detail
Terry Preston was born and raised in San Leandro, California and now resides in Castro Valley, California. Her passion for nature and animals began at a very early age. After retiring from her job as a wildlife biologist and researcher she turned her interest to drawing and painting animals she studied throughout her life. Her job gave her insight and close contact to many species of wildlife, from large black bears to hummingbirds, the smallest of bird species.
She works primarily in graphite, colored pencil, watercolor and pen.
She completed the Botanical Illustration Program at Cornell University, New York, Biological Illustration at California State University, Hayward and has exhibited at many San Francisco Bay Area galleries.
Her goal is to represent nature and wildlife with realism and detail and with a special focus on species that the earth is at risk of losing. Terry’s hope for all who view her work is to realize and remember the tremendous value and vulnerability of wildlife species. She also hopes that through education and activism we can all learn and participate in bringing these species back to healthy populations.
All the art works exhibited here are available as unframed Giclee prints. Giclee prints are high quality reproductions of original art. They are created with a high-resolution camera using pigments, not dyes, and are printed on heavy rag archival watercolor paper. They do not degrade like other prints.
MY VISION
Since childhood the perfection of the natural world has filled me with a sense of wonder and peace. Nature has always been a central focus in my life. When I’m not absorbed in a natural subject, I am working as an environmental advocate to promote and protect the natural wonders of Planet Earth.
Each time I sit to draw or paint, it presents me with an opportunity to connect with the wonders of this planet. In my art I attempt to portray a subject as it appears to me. I use a range of media including oil, acrylic, graphite, colored pencil and watercolor.
My hope is that my art will encourage viewers to travel outside, whether to Africa, to a montane forest or even to a local park to seek out and connect with the incredible wild creatures with whom we share this planet.
